Wolves At The Gate, Types and Shadows

By Donn King

This album is different from the band’s earlier releases, which I really liked.  This one is a change of pace, definitely softer metal for them. It is more in line with Demon Hunter’s sound.  I like  the album a lot, as much as I love the harder albums, it’s nice to understand the lyrics easily which are Christ-centered and solid. Speaking of lyrics, Aftermath’s lyrics read, “Weep no more rejoice, punishment is paid. I feared the One who bears all sin. Will you take me in Father? Cover me with Your blood.” The song is Fountain which lyrics are taken from an old hymn called, “There is a Fountain Filled with Blood,” written by William Cowper. The lyrics include “Ever since by faith I saw the stream your flowing wounds supplied. Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be till I die.”

The album ends with the song broken bones which really speaks to me. “Don’t be nervous to face that truth that you’re not fine, you never were. So don’t be frightened to see the Light when you open up your eyes. Now I’m alive, would you believe it? My heart is clean though it was so defiled. Now I’m alive, would you believe it? Inside these broken bones.”

I’ll give it 4 out of 5 stars. And I’m a tough grader. I definitely recommend giving this album a listen.
